General Information about the Appeal Process

U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents:

  • Students who use federal aid must submit a 2020-2021 FAFSA
  • Parent PLUS Loan Applications available online (upload denial letter if denied)
  • Graduate Plus Loan Application available online (for Graduate Students Only)
  • You may be asked to provide proof that you have “exhausted all other avenues of support”
    • Proof of loan denial may be required
    • If you have been approved for student loans but did not accept these awards, please explain why
  • Attach any supporting documents you have

Note: If you or your parent/guardian has had a decrease in income, such as a loss of employment or loss of a family member, or approved for unemployment benefits, you may also be eligible for additional federal aid – this process is called an "Income Adjustment". Please review the 2020-2021 Income Adjustment Request instructions for eligibility criteria and requirements.

F-1 International Students: Federal regulations require that all F-1 students show proof of financial support for tuition and living expenses to be eligible to apply for an F-1 visa and maintain F-1 status upon arrival to Otis College.

  • Proof of Extenuating Circumstances: Provide proof of extenuating or unforeseen circumstance that results in additional financial burden such as loss of employment, loss of business revenue, impact of COVID-19 on family or environment, medical or health related expenses, travel or unforeseen expenses with transportation, or additional cost due to unique situations outside of student’s control.

Please allow 10 business days for a decision. If additional information is required for the committee, you will be contacted by The One Stop.  Scholarship funds must be used for tuition and fee expenses first. Only appeals approved under the COVID-19 Emergency Fund policy may result in refunds to assist with student living expenses.
